Homework for week of 10/29/07
Middle School Humanities and Language Arts Homework
Week of October 29, 2007
Everyone: check out this brand new blog for short personal essays from adults recalling their middle school years. It’s especially interesting for 6th and 7th graders who are about to come up with ideas for their own memoirs.
http://www.canisitwithyou.blogspot.com/
History
1. Read chapter 1, “The Great Leap Forward” in “Ancient Civilization”. We will tell you which questions to answer in class. This time, all the questions need to be answered in full sentences, which refer back to the question. For example:
1. Some things people in early times could have learned from animals are what food animals ate and how animals hunted.
Due in second block this week.
2. Use the map at the end of this packet to fill in a blank map about Mesopotamia. You’ll receive this in class.
Due in second block this week.

• How does the author inform you about all of this things about this character through the events in the memoir, not just by “telling or listing”? Think about all of the following about a character:
physical characteristics---looks, gestures,
how does s/he relate to others----shy, outgoing, kind, unfriendly, mean, sarcastic….
His/her personality, especially anything unique
Use specific examples and quotes to “prove” your points. I EXPECT IT TO BE A FULL PAGE LITERARY LOG AT A MINIMUM. Due on Wednesday, Nov. 7th.
3. A short assignment on capitalization will be handed out and due Thursday, Nov. 1st.

There will be an in-class activity, which you will be unable to do without having read the article before hand (hint, hint).
