Homework week of 1/27/09

Middle School Humanities and Language Arts Homework
Week of January 27th, 2009


History
1. Reading on Judaism will be assigned in class. Due dates TBA.

2. Eighth graders will have some work on Obama’s inauguration speech. To be explained in class.

Language Arts
6th grade
1. Test on Wordly Wise 5 on Thursday, Jan. 29th.
2. Short story reading will be assigned in class on Thursday.

7th grade
1. Complete Wordly Wise 7---due on Wednesday, Jan. 28th.

2. Short story reading will be assigned in class on Wednesday, Jan. 28th and due on Friday, Jan 30th.

3. Apostrophe test will be on Wednesday, Feb. 4th. The test will require you to:
*recognize whether an apostrophe is used correctly or not in sentences
*Add apostrophes to words in sentences.
*Write down specific rules for using apostrophes.
*Write your own sentences, using specific rules given to you.
Use your two corrected apostrophe assignments, the workbook section on apostrophes in your Inside Writing book, and the rules section in this book.

4. Short story homework will be assigned over the weekend and due on Wed., Feb. 4th.

8th grade
1. Write a literary log to a partner about your favorite character so far in Twelfth Night. Write about how Shakespeare shows what this character is like through his/her actions, the way s/he speaks, his/her relationships with others, and anything else you notice. You must use quotes from the play. Due Monday, Feb. 2nd. Do a Google image search for an image of this character. Print it out and bring it on Monday.

2. There is an assignment on the blog about Twelfth Night. Due on Friday, Jan. 30th.
Be sure to do the entire assignment. Write down who you think the characters are on a notecard and bring to class.

3. Begin taking notes on your first 8th grade project source. You may use note cards, paper, or the computer. Do not use both sides of cards or paper. Ten note cards or the equivalent are due this Friday, Jan. 30th. Remember to take notes by topic and /or sub topic and include the source and page number o

homework week of 1/20/09

Middle School Humanities and Language Arts Homework
Week of January 20, 2009

History
1. Complete the inauguration assignments handed out in classes on Tuesday. They are due on Wed., for Block III, Thursday for Block II, and Friday for Block I.
2. Reading on Judaism will be assigned in block classes on Wed., Thurs., and Friday and due in first block classes next week.

Language Arts

6th Grade
1. Wordly Wise unit 5 test on Wed., Jan. 22nd.
2. Short story work will be assigned in class on Thursday.


7th Grade
1. Final Night essays are due on Friday, Jan. 23rd. You must turn in the rough draft, planning sheet and final essay all paper clipped together.

2. Apostrophe review work, assigned last week, is due this Wed., Jan. 21st. Bring your grammar/punctuation book on Wed. and Friday.

3. Bring your travel drives to class on Wed. and Friday and your Wordly Wise books on Wednesday.

8th Grade
1. Questions on Twelfth Night are due on Thursday, Jan. 22nd.

History

1. Label all the countries and bodies of water on the Middle East map handed out in class today.
2. Find an article on the current situation in Gaza and bring to 2nd block class. Be sure to read and highlight it.
3. Reading on Judaism will be assigned in 2nd block class.

Language Arts
6th grade
1. Wordly Wise unit 5---A-D due Thursday, January 15.
2. Reply to your literary log partner. Due Thursday, January 15.

7th grade
1. Your essay planning sheet plus 3 paragraphs of your rough draft on Night are
due Wed., 1/14. BRING YOUR THUMB DRIVES TO CLASS ALL WEEK.
2. Your complete rough draft of this essay is due on Fri., 1/16.
3. Night art project is due on Wed., 1/14.

8th grade
1. Reading and questions for Twelfth Night will be assigned in class.
2. Write a literary log to me about your reactions to Shakespeare thus far.

Week of January 5, 2009

History
1. Complete your project (begun before Winter Break) on a Buddhist country. You will receive a separate set of directions in class.
Due first block next week (Monday for II and III, Tuesday for I)

Language Arts
Sixth Grade
1. Write a literary log to your partner (to be assigned in class). The topic is your favorite books when you were little (before you could read to yourself). It’s not a list----write about the books, the experiences of hearing them read to you and so on. Did you also look at them yourself? Do you remember who read them to you? Did you ever go to library story times? These are just questions to get you started. Due on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009. Let your partner read it in class, but then turn them in.

2. Grammar/punctuation will be assigned in class on Tuesday.

Seventh Grade
1. We will begin a final essay on Night in class on Wednesday. The planning sheet and beginning of the rough draft is due on Friday, 1/9.
The final essay is due on Friday, 1/16.

BRING YOUR FLASH DRIVES TO EVERY LANGUAGE ARTS CLASS!!

2. An art project on Night will be explained in class on Wednesday. The art project will be due on Wed., 1/14.
