Week of 10/5/09

Humanities
IMPORTANT: SCHEDULES ARE DIFFERENT THIS WEEK BECAUSE OF FARM SCHOOL. HAVE ALL OF YOUR BINDERS AND YOUR CLASS BOOK WITH YOU DAILY.

1. We’ll begin reading a history chapter in classes this week. You will have questions assigned in class. Questions are due on Friday, Oct. 9th.

Language Arts
6th
1. Read chapters 5 through 8 in Anthony Burns by Friday, Oct. 2nd. Reflections, vocabulary and questions for chapters 5 through 8 are due on Friday, Oct. 9th.
2. Write a literary log to an adult in your home AND have the adult write a reply. Your letter and the reply from your parent/guardian is due Friday, Oct. 9th. Write your letter by Wednesday so your parent/guardian has 2 nights to reply.
Topics:
The letter is not a plot summary, but you will need to give some information so your reader will know what you’re writing about. For example, give the title, author, genre, time period and major issues in the book. Then, write about the following:
• What did you think/feel about the book when we first began reading this book?
• In what ways have your thoughts/feelings changed? Be specific.
• What questions do you have about the book and/or the author at this point in the book?
• What do you think about the structure of the book (such as the switching back and forth in time)?
• Would you recommend this book to your parent/guardian? Why/why not?
• Choose one passage that you found really important in the book and quote it.

1. Anthony Burns reflections, vocabulary and questions for chapters 5 through 8 are due Wed., Oct. 7th. I will check them off in class because you’ll need your lit. log for the letter.

2. Bring all the research for your individual poster on Anthony Burns topics on Thursday, Oct. 1st. You will have time to work on your poster in class and the final poster is due Friday, Oct. 2nd.
Requirements:
• Your poster will be used to teach your classmates about your topic. Include:
• A clear, visible title
• Visuals----photos, drawings, charts etc.
• Important dates/places/people
• Lay it out in a visually interesting manner. For example, use contrasting colors, readable fonts etc.
• Proofread
