Ancient Mesopotamian City of Ur
This is the entrance to the tomb in the ancient Mesopotamian city of Ur. This photo is from a large collection in the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. Click here for a link to the site.
The house is old and mysterious. It would make me feel safe if I went inside. Just looking at it mkes me feel like there's a part of history with me in it.
Wow. I looked at the pictures of Borsippa and those rocks/bricks were very amazing! I wonder how much time it took to build those. Those ancient sumerians must have worked pretty hard!
I think it is amazing that they could make a cylende shape out of bricks. I also think it's incredible how far the ruins are away from the ocean now when Ur was build next to the ocean.
Those pics were pretty awsome!!! I wonder what that huge building was used for? It looks like maybe a whole city inside that one structure!! Or maybe it was just the plce to govern or a city hall or something? It looks like a great place to play hide and seek!
this is a very detailed blog. The has great information about ancient Mesopotamia. The map is highly detailed and has all the names of the city. I think my mother reads this or checks this blog every day for the homework and to see what is going on in class. i had a great time reading this blog
I thought that the insrcired writting of their language was quite intersting how the were litarite. The were great architects beacuse the buldings look like they could be from moderen time. - Ian
The pictures are really cool! I especially liked the inscribed brick. The symbols were so different from ours! I would like to go as well, It would be fun to pretend to be living there.
The photos were really interesting. I especially liked the inscribed brick ones. The symbols were awesome! I wonder what it would’ve been like living in a city like that after living in this one?
I noticed that it must have taken a really long time to build these cities becuase the bricks are so carefully stacked. Another thing i noticed was that they liked using the shape of a triangle.
I thought the Babylon picture were really cool. There were engraved pictures of different aniimal type creatures. And the big buildings there look like barracks or jails!!! doesn't look too friendly.
The pictures of the writing are interesting, there were a lot of building pictures. I wonder what those people were looking inside of in that one picture you showed. Like the person before it looks like an interesting place to go to. I might go there some day.
I noticed that most of those photos showed the ruins of ancient Ur. I only saw one that looked like a more recent road. It was a bit of a surprise to see it after viewing pictures of cemeteries, old writing, and ruins of ancient Ur. I think it would be fun to go there to explore everywhere, try to read the writing, and sort through the rocks to see if we could find more "evidence of ancient civilization". Perhaps we could go there on a field trip! Wasn't Abraham born in Ur? I remember that from when we were studying religions in 6th grade. ~Aysha Lee K. W.
I think these pictures are really amazing! THey are really beautiful but they kind of make me sad because some of the buildings and landscapes are ruins.
