Homework for week of 1/21/08

Middle School Humanities and Language Arts Homework
Week of Jan. 21, 2008


History
1. Read “How the Sumerians Lived” and answer questions (to be assigned in class).
2. Possible homework on Martin Luther King, Jr., depending on how far we get in class in presentation and discussion.

Next, click on Chronologies (left vertical bar)
Go to the feature Interactive Flash Chronology

2. You can also go to the King Encyclopedia and click on any topic(s) of interest.

Language Arts
6th
1) We will have a Wordly Wise test on Unit 4 on Thursday. Se sure to have your book, with the unit completed, in class Thursday.
2) Write a lit log to the partner you are assigned in class on Tuesday.
Choose from one of the following topics:
• The relationship that two or more characters have with each other.
• An issue the book deals with or a challenge a character has
• Why you like the author’s writing style
• You may ask me about another topic if none of these fits what you want to write about.

You MUST use examples, and the letter should be a page or more. Remember – date it, start with Dear ------- , and end by signing it.

7th
1. Wordly Wise unit 7 due Friday, Jan. 25th. Bring book to class on Wed.
2. Night. We will begin reading on Wednesday and you will be assigned reading depending upon how far we get in class. Bring your literary log to class on Wed.
3. Lit log:
We’ll create a section in your lit. log for Night. You will need to write an entry at the end of every chapter. It should include your reactions to the chapter, any vocabulary words you aren’t sure of, and any questions.
4. Post-its:
Put post-its on pages that you have questions about or that seem really important to you.
There will be a post-it check in every l. arts class period.

8th
8th grade project
• Have a parent/adult sign this form Thursday, January 24th
(you received the form in class last week)
• Develop a list of questions your Thursday, January 24th
report will answer and/or topics you
will cover. (a form was handed out last week)
• Bring a SFPL card
• Gather and begin reading first source Friday, January 25th
(we will do this in class---You MUST bring a
S.F. library card on Thursday)
(your source needs to be approved by
Elena or Tammy)
• organize a folder for your work

Bring your writing notebook to class on Friday.
