Middle School Language Arts and Humanities Homework
Week of 2/19/08

History
1. Go to the website: www.ancientchina.co.uk
2. Click on geography
• Read the intro page, then go to “Explore Maps of Ancient China”.
• Under choose a map, go to terrain.
• Using 5 different colored pencils, make a key for each of the 5 types of terrain and add them to your China map. For more information, double click on each terrain.
• Due during 2nd block this week.
Note: if you don’t have Internet access at home, the computers will be available at lunch, before and after school.
3. Update your election map/delegate chart after Wisconsin's primary (2/19/08).
Language Arts
6th grade
1. We will work on nouns in class Tuesday and you will receive an assignment to start a Parts of Speech book. This first section on nouns is due on Thursday.
2. We will begin our next class book, The Giver in class on Thursday. Be sure to bring your lit log.

7th grade
1. Review the rules for Apostrophes on pages 158, 159, 25, 26, and 27 of your Skills Book.
Make a chart for all the rules. Under each rule, write 2 sentences using this rule with words from Wordly Wise unit 7. Due on Wed., Feb. 20th. There will be a quiz on apostrophes on Friday, Feb. 22nd.
2. Night art project with neatly and thoroughly completed paragraph due Wed., Feb. 20th.
3. Be sure to bring writing notebooks and all poetry you’ve written this year to all classes this week and next.
4. Bring your Wordly Wise books on Wed.

8th grade
1. 8th grade project. This is your main homework for both history and language arts. You should work beyond the minimum 1.5 hours per week. Bring all of your work, including your updated work diary, to class on Thursday and Friday. We will also have lunchtime meetings available. BY THIS WEEK YOU SHOULD HAVE A MINIMUM OF 20 NOTE CARDS FROM YOUR RESEARCH. By the first week of March, you should have enough information to do a rough topic outline of the report.

2. Read the packet on selected African American poetry. Thinking about the work we’ve done on racism through the Jena Six case and To Kill a Mockingbird, write 2 poems on racism or any other form of injustice. Due on Thursday, Feb. 21st. Have all of your poetry on your flash drive.
