Middle School Humanities and Language Arts Homework
Week of 2/25/08


History
1. 8th graders: Your 8th grade project is an interdisciplinary history/language arts project. See language arts for specific assignments.
2. All grades:
➢ Do research using on-line sources, encyclopedias, or other book sources (some are available in class) to find out more about your hsing (dynasty). The first paragraph in your hsing packet lists some important discoveries and/or people from that time period and those are possible topics.
➢ Requirements:
• Choose a topic (work it out in your group so each person has a different topic)
• Look for a useful source
• Fill out the “Ancient China Research Form
• A minimum of 1 form is due in second block class this week (Block II---first block next week).

Possible sources:
www.sfpl.org (you may use the databases, but you’ll need your library card pin number)
Some good databases include the online Encyclopedia Britannica, listed under databases.

Language Arts
6th grade
1. Giver – Chapters 4 and 5 by Thursday and 6,7, 8 by next Monday
Shabanu – Read to page
The work relate to the books will be handed out in class on Tuesday. Be sure you have the book and your lit log.
2. Test on WW unit 5 on Thursday
3. Next section on the noun book will be due next Tuesday – assigned in class this week

7th grade
1. The apostrophe quiz will be this Friday, February 29th.
2. Wordly Wise 8 is due next Wed., March 5th.

8th grade
1. 8th grade project:
• Work 3 hours per week minimum----be sure to keep up your work diary, or you won’t receive credit for time worked.
• 25-30 note cards are due on Monday, March 3rd. We’ll begin a rough topic outline that day.
