Middle School Language Arts and Humanities Homework
Week of September 14, 2009
Humanities
1. On the map, do the following:
- Label North America, Central America, South America,
Europe, and Africa. Color the continents in VERY LIGHTLY with a different shade of colored pencil for each continent. Do NOT label anything else, yet.
- Color and label all bodies of water.
Due in second block this week (Wed. for Block III, Thurs. for Block II, Fri. for Block I)
2. Complete the handout on decades, centuries etc.
Due in second block this week (Wed. for Block III, Thurs. for Block II, Fri. for Block I)
3. There will be a second map assignment handed out in 2nd block. It will be due on Mon., Sept. 21st, for Blocks II and III, and on Tues., Sept 22nd, for Block I.
Language Arts
6th grade:
1. Write a literary log to me (Tammy) explaining what makes a “good “character in a book. How does the author create a character who’s believable, even if you don’t like this character? Use specific examples of both good and bad characters and what made them “good” or “bad.” Remember, it’s not a plot summary and it needs to be a full page.
Due on Thursday, September 17th.
7th grade:
1. Write a literary log to me (Elena) about your favorite genres of books and those genres you really don’t like. You can compare the genres you like now to the genres you liked (or disliked) when you were younger. Are there any genres that you have recently become interested in? What interests you about the genres you like? Use specific examples from books you have read. Remember, it’s not a plot summary and it needs to be a full page. Due on Friday, September 18th.
2. A writing assignment will be given out on Wednesday and due on Friday, 9/18.
8th grade:
1. Write a literary log to your partner about a LITERARY topic of your choice. Refer to the “Whine, whine…” list for ideas. . Remember, it’s not a plot summary and it needs to be a full page. Due on Thursday, 17, 2009.
