homework for week of 2/4/08

Middle School Humanities and Language Arts Homework
week of February 4, 2008


History:
1. This week we will be sharing your candidate profiles and following the primary elections. You will receive a blank map of the US that we will use for recording the results of the primaries/caucuses in each state. In class we will begin the map with those states that have already voted.
For homework you will be recording the results in the more than 20 states that will vote on Tuesday. This is due in your second block period this week.

2. In your second block period, we will wrap up our study of Sumer. You will receive instructions for the remaining timeline entries for Sumer.
Your timeline with completed Sumer entries is due will be due in the 1st block period of next week

Language Arts
6th grade
1. Wordly Wise unit will be started in class on Tuesday and is due on Thursday.

2. We will be writing poetry in class this week. You will write 2 additional poems for homework, due next Tuesday, February 12.

7th grade
1. Punctuation/grammar homework to be assigned in class and due Wed., 2/13.
2. Art project on Night due on Wed., 2/13.
Requirements:
• You will choose a topic based on a discussion/review of literary elements we’ll have in class on Wed.
• The project needs to be mixed media. This can be an assemblage, collage with another media, sculpture, or other combinations. It cannot be a drawing or a painting by itself, but can combine those elements.
• You need to write a thorough paragraph caption, explaining your topic and how you represented your topic in your art. This should be attached to the bottom of your project (such as you would see in a museum exhibition).
3. Bring your writing notebook and flash drive to class for all language arts classes for the next weeks. We’ll be working on poetry.

8th grade
1. Bring your writing notebook and flash drive to class for all language arts classes for the next weeks. We’ll be working on poetry.
2. Write a literary log letter to a partner on the book you are currently reading. We’ll assign/choose new partners in class. Due on Friday, Feb. 8th.
3. New dates for 8th grade project on reverse. Save in your 8th grade project folder.




Second Set of 8th Grade Project Due Dates (Feb. 2008)

Due
1. Begin filling out work diary and bring to Every Monday
class, along with your folder, every Monday.

2. Go to the library and gather your second
(or more) source. Take notes Monday, Feb. 11

3. Continue gathering sources and taking notes. Monday, Feb. 18th, 25th

4. Write a rough topic outline for your report Monday, March 3rd
